From whom, or what, am I saved?

Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

John 10:9
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Acts 2:21
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Jesus spoke about how to be “saved.” His disciples and apostles later spoke about how one is “saved.” Many in Christ, or Christians, speak about how they have “been saved,” but from whom or what are we being saved from?

It’s a question, important especially to those unbelievers outside of Christ.

What, or whom, do I need to be saved from?

let’s look at a very commonly quoted scripture, that of John 3:16-17.

Read the full context.

John 3:14-21
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

From what is Jesus talking about being “saved” from, or how are we “damned?”

The answer is quite simple.

Are we saved from the Devil, or Satan?
Yes, but that is not exactly the correct answer.

The Devil can deceive you as he has the world, but he has no power to destroy you or your soul.

The correct answer is, you are saved by God from God.

You see, God wants to be glorified by man and all his creation. God deserves all the Glory for creating the universe we know, the planet we live on, the life that we breath, and the form that we are as human beings. He created everything!

God wants to be glorified.

God is righteous, pure, holy, and he demands the same of his people who will glorify God.

No man on earth is righteous before God, save one, born of God, that is Jesus the Christ.

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

The word of God says the Just shall live by faith.

Romans 1:17
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Therefore, by the faith in God, faith in Jesus the Christ, one receives the righteousness of God.

We are, therefore, saved by God’s grace through our Faith in Christ Jesus.

What then are we being saved from?

God’s wrath!

You are saved from the wrath of God.

What is the wrath of God?

God’s final judgment on sinners.
God’s final judgement on the wicked.
God’s final judgment on iniquity.

Read Revelation 20:10-15.

Revelation 20:10-15
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. 11 ¶ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

First, note in this prophesy that the Devil, Satan, who deceived all the world will be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone. Next will go all his minions. Then shall all the dead, who are not saved in Christ, be raised to stand before Almighty God and be judged for their works on earth and their sins against God. All those not written in the book of Life shall be cast into the same fiery lake as the Devil.

This is an eternity of pain and punishment in hell fire, the lake of fire!

You see, vengeance belongs to God.

Deuteronomy 32:43
Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.

Nahum 1:2
God is jealous, and YHWH revengeth; YHWH revengeth, and is furious; YHWH will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

Remember God wants all the glory!

God is not going to start his new kingdom reign with sinners.

Revelation 21:7-8
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Only the righteous and those found in the book of life shall have been “saved.”

What are they saved for; you might ask?

Eternity with God in the new heavens and the new earth!

Read Revelation 21:1-3.

Revelation 21:1-3
¶ And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

So, with all this in mind let’s read John 3:14-18 again.

John 3:14-18
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Do you see and comprehend the message Jesus was preaching about the Good News of the Gospel?

Did you know God is longsuffering not wiling that any should perish?

2nd Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

God through his abundant mercies and abundance of grace sent his only Son, Jesus to die on the Cross for your sins to be removed, or remitted. If you would only believe in Jesus, the Christ then you too could be saved from the final judgement, the second death, and wrath of Almighty God!

You must believe in Jesus the Christ!

Acts 4:12
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Jesus told the Jews of his day they should believe in him as the Messiah.

John 8:24
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Jesus said, to come to God, Almighty YHWH, you must come through him, Jesus.

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
