God's "Faithful Witness"
You’ve already been introduced to God’s time frame of a biblical day and learned how He divided the day into day and night and how the day, itself, was further divided into evening and morning. We briefly showed how the word of God speaks of a "month" being translated the "new moon." Lastly, you learned that the first light of moon was also the first day.
Now you’re going to find out how a month works. For it was just shown that the start of the month began with the new moon, which is the translated meaning for the Hebrew word that in our Bibles was poorly translated as a “month.”
Well, like the day—which began with even to morning—a month in God’s time is very much the same. Even though it says “morning” as it was previously shown how a Biblical day began with evening so therefore it must end just before the coming evening to complete the cycle. Likewise, a month begins at the new moon, and ends with a new moon.
See the illustration below.
Notice a Biblical day begins at evening, or moon time, to even (moon time) and likewise a biblical month which starts at new moon to new moon.
Modern astronomers and ancient Hebrews learned something most interesting, a month will never change in its time.
A day will certainly change, and can change in its time.
There are longer and shorter days, but are there longer or shorter months? According to mathematical projections of the moon phase today the answer is no.
But even if there were, it still was determined by a set rule of new moon to new moon.
Now the number of days from a new moon to new moon is approximately 29 days. The experts today are specific to say 29.5... days in a lunar cycle.
But if you study a lunar cycle, you only find about 29 to possibly 30 days.
Our month today is based on a more modern Gregorian Roman Catholic calendar and encompasses 28 to 31 days.
The Lunar cycle has been perhaps studied by more people and even the United States Navy and Her Majesty’s U.K. Government as well many others keep track of the lunar cycle and will confirm that it is roughly 29.5 days.
Amazingly, lunar cycle hardly ever changes! “Hardly” because the length of moon phase can vary (29 or 30) days or if one relies on physically sighting of the moon's crescent alone, the calendar definitely will vary.
What never changes is the fact that we never fail to have a new moon!
Isaiah 60:19-20 (KJV)
The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but YHWH ( the LORD) shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. [20] Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for YHWH ( the LORD) shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.
Joel 2:10 (KJV)
The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:
Joel 2:31 (KJV)
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of YHWH ( the LORD) come.
Jeremiah 31:35-37 (KJV)
Thus saith YHWH ( the LORD), which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; YHWH ( the LORD) of hosts is his name: [36] If those ordinances depart from before me, saith YHWH ( the LORD), then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. [37] Thus saith YHWH ( the LORD); If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith YHWH ( the LORD).
The Holy Bible says very much about the moon—more than most people realize.
The Bible actually refers that the moon "as a Faithful witness."
Psalm 89:37 (KJV)
It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
The "it"in the above Scripture refers to the "Throne of God" as being established forever as the moon which is clearly described as being a Faithful witness.
It also states the moon was appointed by God for seasons.
Psalm 104:19 (KJV)
He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.
The word in the Hebrew for “seasons” means actually an “appointed time” or a “fixed time.”
mow`ed, Hebrew 4150, Strong’s
mow`ed, mo-ade'; or mo`ed, mo-ade'; or (feminine) mow`adah, mo-aw-daw'; (2 Chron. 8:13), from Hebrew 3259 (ya`ad); properly an appointment, i.e. a fixed time or season; specifically a festival; conventionally a year; by implication, an assembly (as convened for a definite purpose); technically the congregation; by extension, the place of meeting; also a signal (as appointed beforehand) :- appointed (sign, time), (place of, solemn) assembly, congregation, (set, solemn) feast, (appointed, due) season, solemn (-ity), synagogue, (set) time (appointed).
This means that the moon was appointed by God for “fixed times.” It must therefore be extremely accurate! This is a time clock that does not ever fail.
Which means its cycle likely has never changed since it was first created by the mouth of the LORD God.
The Word of God is true and in all its applications of the new moon, the moon, and the lunar cycle are all truly “fixed” on a set ordained schedule of time and appointed to its proper right and continual time.
From new moon to new moon is exactly 29(.5) to 30 days.
The First day is the day of the first sighting of the crescent of the lighted part of the moon. This marks for time for us and a continuous cycle which cannot by God's own word ever change, unless He decrees it so.
Malachi 3:6 (KJV)
For I am YHWH ( the LORD), I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
The Bible states clearly the moon is a faithful witness!
Psalm 89:37 (KJV)
It shall be established forever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
The word in our Bibles as “Selah” is a notation by the author for the modern reader and ancient singer to stop and pause on this saying or psalm.
celah, Hebrew 5542, Strong’s
celah, seh'-law; from Hebrew 5541 (calah); suspension (of music), i.e. pause :- Selah.
Indeed, before going forward, I will pause. I ask you to think about what this psalm says the moon as God’s Throne is a “faithful witness.”
Selah.
[Take a pause break on Psalm 89:37]
The Hebrew word in this Scripture for "faithful" is “aman.”
'aman, Hebrew 539, Strong’s
'aman, aw-man'; a primitive root; properly to build up or support; to foster as a parent or nurse; figurative to render (or be) firm or faithful, to trust or believe, to be permanent or quiet; moral to be true or certain; once (Isa. 30:21; by interchange for Hebrew 541 ('aman)) to go to the right hand :- hence assurance, believe, bring up, establish, + fail, be faithful (of long continuance, stedfast, sure, surely, trusty, verified), nurse, (-ing father), (put), trust, turn to the right.
The moon is Faithful! The Lunar cycle is firm! You can trust in it. It is steadfast and sure. It is established; the Bible says God's throne was established “forever” as or like the moon. Again, this is the case until God decries that it is not so.
It is true that the moon shall wax away when God completes all His Awesome and fearful Work.
