Who is the One True Living God of the Holy Bible?

Many people who are completely new to this book called the Holy Bible, or new to Christianity, might ask "Who is the One True Living God of the Holy Bible?"

To find the answer to this question, one must read the Holy Bible and learn for his or herself the nature of God.

One must therefore begin at the beginning.

Genesis 1:1-2 (KJV)
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. [2] And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

In the first Hebrew scriptures of the Holy Bible, we learn that "God" is simply a fact of nature and exists, or pre-exists, to create the heavens and the earth.

Next we learn that God is a Spirit.

The first Book of the Holy Bible is written in the ancient Hebrew script language and the Hebrew word for "Spirit" is the word ruwach.

ruwach, Hebrew 7307, Strong’s

ruwach
, roo'-akh; from Hebrew 7306 (ruwach); wind; by resemblance breath, i.e. a sensible (or even violent) exhalation; figurative life, anger, unsubstantiality; by extensive a region of the sky; by resemblance spirit, but only of a rational being (including its expression and functions) :- air, anger, blast, breath, × cool, courage, mind, × quarter, × side, spirit ([-ual]), tempest, × vain, ([whirl-]) wind (-y).

The Hebrew word for "God" is the word 'elohiym.

'elohiym, Hebrew 430, Strong’s

'elohiym
, el-o-heem'; plural of Hebrew 433 ('elowahh); gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative :- angels, × exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), × (very) great, judges, × mighty.

Next we learn that God speaks and it is so, God creates and it is created. God also give names to things created.

Genesis 1:3-5 (KJV)
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. [4] And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. [5] And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

We also learn that God is a "He" or masculine Spirit, not a female spirit.

Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV)
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. [27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

We learn that God has an image, likeness, character or nature similar to man or humans which God created.

In Genesis 2 we learn that God has a name—YHWH or the Hebrew Yehovah.

Genesis 2:4-5 (KJV)
These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that YHWH (The LORD) God made the earth and the heavens, [5] And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for YHWH (the LORD) God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

Yehovah, Hebrew 3068, Strong’s

Yehovah
, yeh-ho-vaw'; from Hebrew 1961 (hayah); (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Hebrew national name of God :- Jehovah, the LORD. Compare Hebrew 3050 (Yahh), Hebrew 3069 (Yehovih).

The English transliteration of "the LORD" of four Hebrew letters of what in English would be transliterated as "YHWH" and the fourth Hebrew character which is as far as most biblical Hebrew scholars know is physically unpronounceable, is found some fifty-five hundred times in the Old Testament Hebrew.

The Hebrew Name of God looks as follows:

Four letter Hebrew name of God

We learn that God, whom is supreme over man, His creation, gives man commandments to obey and that a failure to obey God's commandments results in a penalty.

Genesis 2:15-17 (KJV)
And YHWH God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. [16] And YHWH God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: [17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

We can clearly see that God expects His commandments to be obeyed, and failure to do this results in penalties or punishment.

Genesis 3:9-19 (KJV)
And YHWH God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? [10] And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. [11] And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? [12] And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. [13] And YHWH God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. [14] And YHWH God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: [15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. [16] Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. [17] And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; [18] Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; [19] In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

The penalty in this case, in addition to these punishments, was a separation of man from God, or a banishment from God's habitation, the garden of Eden.

Genesis 3:22-24 (KJV)
And YHWH God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: [23] Therefore YHWH God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. [24] So He drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

We see that God makes a distinction between right and wrong/ good and evil, and justice is to be meted for disobeying His commandments.

Genesis 4:1-7 (KJV)
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from YHWH. [2] And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. [3] And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto YHWH. [4] And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And YHWH had respect unto Abel and to his offering: [5] But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. [6] And YHWH said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? [7] If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

Here, God makes a distinction between doing well or doing good, and doing what is not well (doing evil) which can bring "sin," or as the Hebrew word chatta'ah for sin means an offence.

chatta'ah, Hebrew 2403, Strong’s

chatta'ah
, khat-taw-aw'; or chatta'th, khat-tawth'; from Hebrew 2398 (chata'); an offence (sometimes habitual sinfulness), and its penalty, occasion, sacrifice, or expiation; also (concrete) an offender :- punishment (of sin), purifying (-fication for sin), sin (-ner, offering).

Because Adam and Even both broke God's rule, or commandment, not to eat of the tree in the Garden of Eden, they committed a sin or offence against God and thus they were punished (banishment from the garden of Eden and sent away from God's presence).

We see this rule is repeated by God toward His creation.

Genesis 4:8-15 (KJV)
And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. [9] And YHWH said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? [10] And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. [11] And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; [12] When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. [13] And Cain said unto YHWH, My punishment is greater than I can bear. [14] Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. [15] And YHWH said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And YHWH set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

We see that God punishes wickedness, or disobedience, to His commandments and God also decrees what shall happen in the future to a person as part of this judgment of God.

Just as God punished wicked behaviors, God also can pardon or have mercy on whom He chooses.

Genesis 6:5-8 (KJV)
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. [6] And it repented YHWH that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. [7] And YHWH said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. [8] But Noah found grace in the eyes of YHWH.

God pardons Noah, because Noah was a just man and walked with God, meaning he obeyed God and followed after God's commandments.

Genesis 6:8-9 (KJV)
But Noah found grace in the eyes of YHWH. [9] These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

So just as God can punish, even "curse", wrong living in the sight of God, God can bless those who live right in the sight of God.

God also has a relationship with man, in the form of a "covenant" or compact made between God and His creation man.

beriyth, Hebrew 1285, Strong’s

beriyth,
ber-eeth'; from Hebrew 1262 (barah) (in the sense of cutting [like Hebrew 1254 (bara')]); a compact (because made by passing between pieces of flesh) :- confederacy, [con-]feder[-ate], covenant, league.

Genesis 9:8-17 (KJV)
And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, [9] And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; [10] And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. [11] And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. [12] And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: [13] I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. [14] And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: [15] And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. [16] And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. [17] And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

Another title of YHWH God, who has many titles, was "the most high God."

Genesis 14:22 (KJV)
And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto YHWH, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,

`elyown, Hebrew 5945, Strong’s

`elyown,
el-yone'; from Hebrew 5927 (`alah); an elevation, i.e. (adjective) lofty (comparative); as title, the Supreme :- (Most, on) high (-er, -est), upper (-most).

In the Book of Exodus we learn of more titles and names of YHWH.

Exodus 3:2-6 (KJV)
And the angel of YHWH appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. [3] And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. [4] And when YHWH saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. [5] And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. [6] Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

YHWH is "the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob", the descendents of Abraham who God made also a covenant with.

Furthermore, we see that God's righteous separation from sinful man is to be "holy," or sacred, or hallowed.

The Hebrew word for Holy is qodesh.

qodesh, Hebrew 6944, Strong’s

qodesh
, ko'-desh;from Hebrew 6942 (qadash); a sacred place or thing; rarely abstract sanctity :- consecrated (thing), dedicated (thing), hallowed (thing), holiness, (× most) holy (× day, portion, thing), saint, sanctuary.

So God is sanctified, to be held sacred, to be hallowed and holy as by man. God is elevated higher than man in all His ways.

God is also a deliverer to His people whom He has grace and mercy upon.

Exodus 3:7-8 (KJV)
And YHWH said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; [8] And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

The Hebrew word for "deliver" is natsal.

natsal, Hebrew 5337, Strong’s

natsal
, naw-tsal'; a primitive root; to snatch away, whether in a good or a bad sense :- × at all, defend, deliver (self), escape, × without fail, part, pluck, preserve, recover, rescue, rid, save, spoil, strip, × surely, take (out).

God will save those whom God blesses and considers to be as His own.

In the meeting of Moses and God in the mountain, we learn God has a Name.

Exodus 3:13-15 (KJV)
And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? [14] And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. [15] And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, YHWH God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

God's Holy Name is "I AM," or "I AM that I AM," which some Biblical Scholars believe is the same or similar to the meaning of YHWH. Again, God says that His name forever is "YHWH God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob."

In addition to this, God had many other titles.

Exodus 5:1-3 (KJV)
And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith YHWH God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. [2] And Pharaoh said, Who is YHWH, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not YHWH, neither will I let Israel go. [3] And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto YHWH our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

So YHWH was known as the "God of Israel," or "The God of the Hebrews," and "God Almighty."

Exodus 6:2-3 (KJV)
And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am YHWH: [3] And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah (YHWH) was I not known to them.

We can see that God has a Holy name YHWH, or as it is rendered in the English here as "Jehovah," but YHWH said He was not yet known to the children of Israel (Jacob) as such.

With the exception of a few more Holy names and titles such as "Jah", (Yah) or "El," as in the place Jacob named as Bethel, "YHWH" or modern English "the LORD" is used most of the time throughout the Old testament Hebrew scriptures.

Genesis 28:16-19 (KJV)
And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely YHWH is in this place; and I knew it not. [17] And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. [18] And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. [19] And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

Beyth-'El, Hebrew 1008, Strong’s

Beyth-'El
, bayth-ale'; from Hebrew 1004 (bayith) and Hebrew 410 ('el); house of God; Beth-El, a place in Palestine :- Beth-el.

Psalm 68:4 (KJV)
Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol Him that rideth upon the heavens by His name Jah, and rejoice before Him.

Yahh, Hebrew 3050, Strong’s

Yahh
, yaw; contracted for Hebrew 3068 (Yehovah), and meaning the same; Jah, the sacred name :- Jah, the Lord, most vehement. Cp. names in "-iah," "-jah."

So we can see that YHWH is a Holy God who seeks righteousness, or well doing, and punishes that which is not right or wicked behavior.
He is hallowed, separate, and sanctified, compared to mankind who is by nature sinful in his attitude towards God's commandments and rules.

God also will save His people and show mercy on His own, or whom He so wishes to pardon or have grace upon.

Exodus 33:19 (KJV)
And He said, I will make all My goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of YHWH before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

We also learn that God is a Holy Supreme Spirit, and is "a jealous God," in that He commands complete submission to His rules or commandments and allows no worship of man-made gods, or graven images or idols.

Exodus 20:1-7 (KJV)
And God spake all these words, saying, [2] I am YHWH thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. [3] Thou shalt have no other gods before me. [4] Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: [5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I YHWH thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; [6] And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. [7] Thou shalt not take the name of YHWH thy God in vain; for YHWH will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.

Again, we see graciousness upon those who obey and choose to love YHWH, and visiting "iniquity", punishments, or sin upon those who hate YHWH.

`avon, Hebrew 5771, Strong’s

`avon
, aw-vone'; or avown, aw-vone'; (2 Kings 7:9; Psa. 51:5 [77]), from Hebrew 5753 (`avah); perversity, i.e. (moral) evil :- fault, iniquity, mischief, punishment (of iniquity), sin.

As was God's nature from the beginning, God has rules, commandments, or His Holy Laws and judgments, which God has given to man, in this case the children of Jacob or Israel.

YHWH commanded His people to be holy, as He is holy.

Leviticus 11:44-45 (KJV)
For I am YHWH your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. [45] For I am YHWH that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

Because God cannot tolerate offence or sin, God made a provision to pardon and forgive His people of their sins through use of holy sacrifices and ritual ordinances contained inside God's Holy law, statutes and judgments.

Leviticus 10:10 (KJV)
And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;

Exodus 32:30-32 (KJV)
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto YHWH; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin. [31] And Moses returned unto YHWH, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. [32] Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.

We see that God can have mercy, grace, and forgive those who commit sin, or offence against His laws.

This forgiveness of sin is called "atonement."

This atonement was give through prepared sacrifices to God or "offerings" as "sin offerings."

Exodus 29:36 (KJV)
And thou shalt offer every day a bullock for a sin offering for atonement: and thou shalt cleanse the altar, when thou hast made an atonement for it, and thou shalt anoint it, to sanctify it.

We can see that God has a relationship between His people, seeking them to remain clean, holy, and free from offence, or sin, and God has prepared a plan for a means of pardoning the sins of His people.

This concept of God, His judgment, mercy, and forgiveness, is the basis for much of the entire Hebrew Old Testament. Next we enter into the New Testament of the Holy Bible, the testimony of God's salvation promise for the children of Israel through the man Jesus.

Before we enter the New Testament scriptures, we must realize that God of the Old Testament has declared He will pardon His peoples' sin and one day seek them out, and gather them, and forgive all their sins, and reign as their God, with His law written in their hearts. This grace and merciful promise of the forgiveness of sin upon his people is known as the New Covenant, which God will one day make with all of the children of Israel (Jacob) according to His past promise made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 (KJV)
Behold, the days come, saith YHWH, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: [32] Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith YHWH: [33] But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith YHWH, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. [34] And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know YHWH: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith YHWH; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

So God will make a new covenant and pardon or forgive the sins of His peoples of the twelve tribes of Jacob/Israel.

When we study the New Testament, we see that God is called or named as "the Lord," or "the Holy Ghost."

Matthew 1:20 (KJV)
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Note that New Testament writings are in Greek, and the word for "God" is the Greek word kurios.

kurios, Greek 2962, Strong’s

kurios
, koo'-ree-os;from kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; by implication Mr. (as a respectful title) :- God, Lord, master, Sir.

Also note, just as God is a Spirit in the Hebrew Old Testament writings, we have the title Holy Spirit or "Holy Ghost."

hagios, Greek 40, Strong’s

hagios
, hag'-ee-os;from hagos (an awful thing) [compare Greek 53 (hagnos), Hebrew 2282 (chag)]; sacred (physical pure, moral blameless or religious, ceremony consecrated) :- (most) holy (one, thing), saint.

pneuma, Greek 4151, Strong’s

pneuma
, pnyoo'-mah;from Greek 4154 (pneo); a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figurative a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul,(by implicaiton) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, dæmon,or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit :- ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind. Compare Greek 5590 (psuche).

John 4:23-24 (KJV)
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. [24] God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

The Lord, referring to YHWH, is another title commonly used throughout the New Testament scriptures, that of "the Father," or "heavenly Father."

Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 6:14-15 (KJV)
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: [15] But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

"Lord of heaven and earth" is another title of God.

Luke 10:21-22 (KJV)
In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. [22] All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

John 8:19 (KJV)
Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

Again, we have the reference in the New Testament to "I AM," the very name of YHWH.

John 8:24 (KJV)
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I AM He, ye shall die in your sins.

John 14:6-13 (KJV)
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. [7] If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. [8] Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. [9] Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? [10] Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. [11] Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. [12] Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.[13] And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

By now you have noticed all these scriptures and statements dealing with the Father were made by a man named JESUS.

Jesus was born, the New Testament testifies, of the Holy Spirit born of a virgin birth.

Matthew 1:18-23 (KJV)
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. [19] Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. [20] But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. [21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. [22] Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, [23] Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Jesus was born destined to "save his people from their sins." Jesus was born of the house of king David; born a Jew or Judahite of the Israelite tribe of Judah, and an Israelite of flesh descendents of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Therefore, Jesus' people were Israelites.

Indeed, Jesus stated this is why he came, or was sent by His "Father."

Matthew 15:24 (KJV)
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

The name of JESUS is the English transliteration of the Greek word Iesous.

Iesous, Greek 2424, Strong’s

Iesous
, ee-ay-sooce'; of Hebrew origin [Hebrew 3091 (Yehowshuwa`)]; Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites :- Jesus.

Note the Greek word Iesous, is of a Hebrew origin Yehowshuwa, meaning YHWH saved. Jehovah-saved, or in other words, the Salvation of YHWH.

Yehowshuwa`, Hebrew 3091, Strong’s

Yehowshuwa`
, yeh-ho-shoo'-ah; or Yehowshu`a, yeh-ho-shoo'-ah; from Hebrew 3068 (Yehovah) and Hebrew 3467 (yasha`); Jehovah-saved; Jehoshuä (i.e. Joshua), the Jewish leader :- Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Joshua. Compare Hebrew 1954 (Howshea`), Hebrew 3442 (Yeshuwa`).

The "Salvation" of YHWH can only come from YHWH, or "the Lord," or "The Father in heaven." That Salvation is the promise of hope, mercy, God's grace through forgiveness of sins of the children of Jacob according God holy prophets of the Old Testament Hebrew scriptures.

That hope was what YHWH said was to one day be fulfilled as the "New Covenant," or as in the Greek, "New Testament."

Jesus stated his own blood was to be shed for "the New Testament," for the "forgiveness of sins."

Matthew 26:28 (KJV)
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

When Jesus was brought into Jerusalem on a donkey, the people shouted something quite amazing. They shouted "Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord" (YHWH).

Mark 11:9-10 (KJV)
And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; b [10] Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

John 12:13 (KJV)
Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Indeed, Jesus stated this himself.

Matthew 23:39 (KJV)
For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

John 5:43 (KJV)
I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

John 10:25 (KJV)
Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

So JESUS has a HOLY NAME, in which contains the Name of YHWH. He further taught His disciples that He is in the Father, and The Father is in Him.

[10] Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.[11] Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. [12] Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. [13] And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

If we look further into the teaching of Jesus' disciples in the letters to the church, we see that God was manifest in the flesh, the man JESUS.

1st Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Again, it was only YHWH who can save anyone.

Zechariah 9:16 (KJV)
And YHWH their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign upon his land.

Zechariah 10:6 (KJV)
And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them again to place them; for I have mercy upon them: and they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I am YHWH their God, and will hear them.

Zechariah 12:7 (KJV)
YHWH also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah.

We learn in the New Testament that there is only one name under heaven by which men must be saved.

Acts 4:10-12 (KJV)
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. [11] This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. [12] Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

JESUS —YHWH SAVED.
Lastly as was shown God in beginning was pre-existent and "the First" and "the last".

Isaiah 44:6-8 (KJV)
Thus saith YHWH the King of Israel, and his redeemer YHWH of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. [7] And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. [8] Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

Isaiah 46:9-13 (KJV)
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like Me, [10] Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure:[11] Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.
[12] Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: [13] I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.

Isaiah 48:12 (KJV)
Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.

Revelation 1:9-11 (KJV)
I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. [10] I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, [11] Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

Another title used in the Old Testament Hebrew for YHWH is the "Lord of Lords."

Deuteronomy 10:17 (KJV)
For YHWH your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:

Psalm 136:3 (KJV)
O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.

1st Timothy 6:15 (KJV)
Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

Speaking of JESUS, the Lamb of God:

John 1:29 (KJV)
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

John 1:36 (KJV)
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

Revelation 17:14 (KJV)
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

Revelation 19:16 (KJV)
And He hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

In conclusion, the God of the Holy Bible who is the Supreme creator; Holy God; Almighty God; the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of Israel; has a Holy exalted name of YHWH, (JEHOVAH, the LORD) and is the same as the New Testament references to the Lord, or the Father in heaven, and is ONE within the very saving name of JESUS, YHWH SAVED.

Lastly, we can rejoice with the prophet Isaiah who made it very clear.

Isaiah 25:8-9 (KJV)
He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for YHWH hath spoken it.
[9] And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us: this is YHWH; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in His (YHWH's) salvation.

JESUS = YHWH's SALVATION

Revelation 1:8 (KJV)
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

I pray and hope, that God has given you a better understanding of exactly WHO the God of the Holy Bible "is, was, and is to come."
