He that doeth the will of my Father

Mathew 7:21-27
¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

This portion of scripture is a frightening warning to those who call themselves ‘Christians’ for only those who call Jesus “Lord,” are the target of the Jesus’ statement here. Jesus says that many will say to Jesus in that day, when they stand before Jesus, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works?”

Then Jesus says he will say to them, “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

This scripture, by Jesus, tells us not all those who say they believe in Jesus will be accepted into the kingdom of heaven, even those who have done mighty works in his name.

Jesus said “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”

Therefore, you should try very hard to find out what the will of the Father is, for clearly not every work done by Christians meets the standard of the will of the Father.

How do we know the will of the Father of Jesus? Well, Jesus gave us a clue in the same scripture.

“Therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:”

One who hears Jesus and does what he says will be working in the will of God as one who built his house upon a good foundation of a rock.

We know Jesus was working in his Father’s will, so if we know Jesus fulfilled the will of the Father, then if we were to study Jesus very closely, we too would learn that will and by obeying Jesus we too would be walking in the same will.

Jesus said a lot of things pertaining to God and his kingdom.
It would not be possible to put all the teachings of Jesus into one article, but let’s look a few key statements or ideas of Jesus did and taught.

Jesus taught baptism and led by his example

Jesus proclaimed all men to repent to God of their sins.

Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the coming Kingdom of God

Jesus taught about the kingdom of God and God’s ways.

Jesus taught about the Law of God and God’s righteousness.

Jesus ministered to all, the poor, the sinners, the sick, the deaf, the lame, the spiritually diseased, and the broken hearted or emotional captives.

Jesus healed people the sinners, the sick, the deaf, the lame, the spiritually diseased, and the broken hearted or emotional captives.

Jesus taught about prayer to God.

Jesus taught us to love God and our neighbor and to love one another as he loved us.

Jesus taught love, faith, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, obedience, and sacrifice by his example.

These are only few key things that Jesus taught and did in doing the will of his Father in heaven.

So, if we could follow the just this brief example of Jesus, we too will most likely be on the right path to fulfilling the will of Almighty God in heaven.

So then if that is doing the will of God, everything outside of that example must not be doing the will of God.

There are many Christians today that say they are doing the will of God. But are they truly doing his will? Or are they doing their own will?

For instance, many Christians today are consumed by so-called Christian causes of politics whether it be topics such as abortion, family values, gays and lesbians, religious freedom, gun rights, Critical Race Theory, immigration, supporting the Jewish state of Israel, or news of wars in the Middle East, etc.

Do any of these things fall into the will of God? Many will argue, “yes! they do!”

But the truth is Jesus never spoke of such things, nor of their importance.

Jesus was not political, nor sought to build a political kingdom of men on the earth, nor a Jewish state, or future Israelite nation.

Jesus never protested, Jesus never used violence, or armed rebellion or even armed protection. Nor did Jesus revile against his foes. Instead, Jesus humbly submitted himself to evil men in the will of God.

Nor did the Jesus’ disciples speak of engaging in worldly politics or protests, or engaging in worldly activism.

1st Peter 2:18-24
Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

1st John 2:15
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

There are many Christians who believe they can build the God’s kingdom on earth through their own works of creating Christian values, Christian politics, and ideology of such so called “Christian Nationalism.”

It was Jesus who did the work on the cross. It was God who raised Jesus from the dead. It was God who sent his Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name. Jesus and God through his Holy Spirit is the only one building the Kingdom of God on earth, not any works of man and his worldly aims of political power.

All power over heaven and earth belongs to Jesus.

Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jesus said the true Kingdom of God is not of this world.

John 18:36
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

Jesus said the kingdom of God is within you.

Luke 17:20-21
¶ And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

This is the kingdom of the Holy Ghost; the present kingdom of God on earth.

This kingdom came about when God sent the holy Spirit of God upon the disciples on the day of Pentecost and began the first day of new church age of kingdom of God on earth. It is a kingdom of the Holy Ghost which dwells within the baptized believers of Jesus the Christ.

The Holy Ghost teaches us the will of God, through the gospel of Jesus the Christ.

Perhaps doing the will of God can best be summed up in the words of Paul the apostle of Christ.

1Corintians 2:2
For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

Our job, as those baptized believers in Jesus the Christ, is to preach the Gospel of Jesus the Christ, his life, ministry, sacrifice, death, resurrection, his reigning, and his return, in order to reach the lost, converting them and baptizing all in name of Jesus the Christ to bring them back to God.

Anything less than that, that takes up our time, our energy, our minds, and our actions, is vain or useless to our duty to God.

When we waste our time, energy, and money with politics and such political and social issues and such causes which are of the world, then we are not walking in the will of God.

Many times, these worldly political and social causes cause division and gender strife, and do not truly edify for the kingdom of God; nor do they gather the lost souls which God seeks. As Jesus said:

Luke 11:23
He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

As Christians we have an example to follow, Jesus, and we have his disciples’ examples as well. Let us follow Jesus, and let us follow what Jesus said, taught, lived, and died. Let us follow the apostle’s example of what a life in Christ should be.

Only if we obey Jesus and closely follow after his teaching and those of his disciples, then we too will know the will of God.

And Jesus will not say to us “Depart from me, ye who work iniquity,” but he will say “Well done my good and faithful servant.”

O YHWH, Heavenly Father, I thank you for sending Jesus to be our example and for giving us your Word, the Holy Bible to learn your will. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to do your will. What an amazing privilege it is to do the will of God helping others to know you the one true living God and Jesus the Christ, your begotten Son, to reach the lost, free the captives, and save them from their sins.

It my sincere prayer, God, that you would prick the reader to heart to know your will and leave their current will of their own, in their political and social and other worldly interests or causes behind. That they, with one heart, would return to you to do your will and seek your will for their life. In Jesus Name, I pray.

May God bless you this day with his Holy Spirit.
