I am come down to deliver them

Exodus 3:8
And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

In the ancient days when the children of Israel were in Egypt under cruel forced bondage, YHWH the almighty Hebrew God told Moses in the Mountain of Sinai that He has “come down” to “deliver” the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage and bring them to a new land of their own.

It was not Moses who would deliver, but God through his miraculous awesome feats of power brought with help of Moses his prophet to Israel and the Egyptians. And YHWH sent Moses to declare the message of freedom for God’s people Israel, and when the Egyptian pharaoh refused to listen to Moses and give in to his requests, YHWH punished the Egyptians with signs, wonders, and plagues. YHWH would do this ten times. The Tenth most notable and last deadly plague was that of YHWH’s Passover.

Exodus 12:21-24
¶ Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover. 22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. 23 For YHWH will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, YHWH will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. 24 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.

The Passover took place on the fourteenth Hebrew day of first Hebrew Month when the full moon was in the sky. On that evening Israel was to kill a lamb, chosen four days before hand.

Each family was to choose a lamb and keep it till the 14th day and at evening time they would kill the lamb and roast it and eat it that night being ready to leave Egypt. The blood of lamb was directed by YHWH to the children of Israel to be dipped with hyssop leaves and then smeared on the door posts of the house of each person or each family of Israel partaking in YHWH’s Passover. The blood placed on the door posts and the lintel of the of door would serve to YHWH as a sign to God that that house was not to be touched by the last and final plague to befall on pharaoh and his people of Egypt. In this plague YHWH would enter into Egypt and kill the first born of all living, whether man or animal, who were not covered by the blood of the lamb.

The Egyptian pharaoh also lost his only son to the plague, the Passover of YHWH.

Exodus 12:29-31
¶ And it came to pass, that at midnight YHWH smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. 30 And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. 31 And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve YHWH, as ye have said.

This was the last plague YHWH sent upon Egypt and it freed the Israelites from their Egyptian captors. In the early hours of the morning of the 14th Hebrew day of Passover the children of Israel were lead out of Egypt by Moses and YHWH.

The Passover marked the beginning of the ending of Egyptian rule over Israel and Israel’s freedom from Egyptian bondage. The Passover was the salvation of YHWH for Israel, the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.

The children of Israel would eventually be saved by YHWH who would take them through the Red Sea to save them from the Egyptians and lead them through wilderness to the Mount Sinai where there they would receive the law of God.

Exodus 19:3-7
And Moses went up unto God, and YHWH called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; 4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. 7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which YHWH commanded him.

Fast forward more than 1,400 years, to the date of 33 AD, year of our Lord Jesus’ ministry, and the Passover of YHWH.

The children of Israel, the remnant of Israel left of the people who had survived for 1,473 years, were keeping the Passover of YHWH as their ancestors did that amazing night in Egypt.

The Children of Israel still killed the lamb and roasted it in the night and placed the blood over the door posts each Passover to commemorate the special holy occasion.

However on the 33rd year of our Lord Jesus, YHWH was once again visiting his people Israel, but most just had no idea at the time.

When Jesus began his ministry, three years prior, he spoke to the children of Israel of the house of Judah, the Jews, he spoke and taught to them in parables. Jesus many times spoke of his Father, Almighty YHWH.

John 8:19-29
Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. 20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come. 21 ¶ Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. 22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. 23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. 25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning. 26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. 27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. 28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

Jesus said he came from the Father.

John 8:42
Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

The people were in expectation of Christ or Messiah to arrive in those days to free or deliver Israel from her bondage of sins against God and to set up the kingdom for Israel and triumph over Israel’s enemies.

To the Jews seeking the Christ or Messiah, Jesus spoke in parables.

John 10:24-31
Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one. 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

Jesus said “I and my Father are one.”

Jesus spoke more clearly to his own close disciples than those outside his disciples’ circle of twelve Israelites.

Jesus said to his disciples at the Passover day:

John 14:7-11
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

Because of Jesus continued professing that he and his Father were One in the same, and he professed to be the Son of God, the Jews wanted to put him to death for blasphemy.

The people looking for Christ to come save Israel and set up new kingdom for Israel to reign forever, did not see that their messiah, their king, had come and that YHWH was in their very presence. Instead of welcoming their king and mighty God, they put him to shame and to judgment and condemned him to death.

Jesus, to his believers, was that very messiah, the Christ of Israel, and the Lamb of God.

John 1:29
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Just as the first Passover of YHWH where the lamb of God was chosen and sacrificed and his blood on the door post of the houses of Israel, Jesus was the Lamb of God who would be sacrificed for the sins of the children of Israel and his blood shed for salvation of the children of Israel.

Matthew 27:22-26
Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. 23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. 24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. 25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. 26 ¶ Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

Jesus, God in the flesh, was then crucified by his own people and put to death for the crime of blasphemy, to be cursed on a tree and hung to die.

Jesus died on the Passover day of the Passover of YHWH. Jesus is our Passover. He came down from above, from Heaven, to deliver not only Israel for her many sins against God, but to deliver you and I, all people, from our sins against God.

Jesus disciples and apostles understood this.

1st Timothy 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Hebrews 2:9-16
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. 10 ¶ For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. 13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. 14 ¶ Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Just as the first Passover delivered Israel or the bondage of the Egyptians, The Passover of Jesus, his sacrifice delivers Israel from the bondage of sins committed against God and all who would take hold of the New Covenant (new testament) made by Jesus and YHWH to be delivered from the curse of sin and bondage of death.

Matthew 26:28
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

You see God had to send Jesus in the flesh, God in the flesh, to save mankind from her sins, that all who would believe in Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, and God in the flesh, would receive the promise of everlasting life and freedom from death and the curses of God’s law, or sin.

John 3:14-18
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Therefore we preach Jesus Christ and his Crucifixion and his rising from the dead on the third day into the glory of heaven, having conquered death of sin on the cross and arisen in the Resurrection of life eternal being our first example to lead us, those who would believe in Jesus to conquer death, and be delivered to life everlasting to heaven with God.

1st Peter 2:5-10
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Therefore we preach to all men and women and children to believe on the name of Jesus the Christ to achieve your salvation in God.

1st John 5:13
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

1st Corinthians 6:11
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

1st John 2:12
I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

Acts 4:8-12
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, 9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; 10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

This is the key importance of the Passover of YHWH!

If you do not know Jesus, then I invite you to learn something about who Jesus was and is.

Do you know Jesus?

If you know Jesus, then ask yourself this Passover, are you covered by the blood of the Lamb?

May God bless you this day with his Holy Spirit.
