Who was Jesus?
Start by asking, who was Jesus?
According to the Holy Bible, Jesus was and is The Son of God, and God manifest in the flesh.
1st Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
Of Jesus, John, a disciple of Jesus, wrote Jesus was the Light of the world and Jesus was "the Word" which "was made flesh" and "dwelt among us."
John 1:9-18 (KJV)
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. [10] He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. [11] He came unto his own, and his own received him not. [12] But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: [13] Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. [14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
[15] John bare witness of Him, and cried, saying, This was He of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for He was before me. [16] And of His fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. [17] For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. [18] No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
John 3:14-21 (KJV)
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: [15] That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
[16] For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
[18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [19] And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. [20] For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. [21] But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
To determine who Jesus was, we need to determine what Jesus taught and spoke about while in His ministry, when HE dwelt among men as a fleshly man.
When one looks at what Jesus spoke of when He had His ministry, one can see that JESUS largely taught about the Old Testament law of His Father— whom Jesus often referred to being sent by, commanded by, and Who gave Him His mission.
Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
It would seem that almost everything Jesus spoke about was first honoring, respecting, and subservient duty to glorifying the Father.
Matthew 5:45 (KJV)
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Jesus also spoke of His inseparable relationship with His Father in heaven.
Matthew 10:32-33 (KJV)
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. [33] But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 11:25-27 (KJV)
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. [26] Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. [27] All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him.
Matthew 12:50 (KJV)
For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
Luke 10:22 (KJV)
All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal Him.
John 5:19 (KJV)
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
So If Jesus is the Son, and His Father is GOD, then Jesus was teaching that He was in fact "the Son of God." Other times JESUS uses the description "Son of man."
Matthew 10:23 (KJV)
But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
Matthew 12:8 (KJV)
For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
Notice the same common usage in the Old Testament prophets.
Ezekiel 2:3 (KJV)
And He (God) said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.
Ezekiel 3:1 (KJV)
Moreover He (God) said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.
Ezekiel 3:3-4 (KJV)
And He (God) said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.
[4] And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with My words unto them.
Ezekiel 3:10 (KJV)
Moreover He (God) said unto me, Son of man, all My words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.
Ezekiel 3:17 (KJV)
Son of man, I (God) have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.
If so much emphasis by JESUS was on the Father, then it becomes very important to know who the Father is.
Reading the Holy Bible will give one the answer.
You'll find that the Father (God) is the same God of the Hebrew Old Testament or The “Great” I AM , the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the One true God and the living God, Almighty God, YHWH, (the LORD) JEHOVAH or Jah (Yah).
Read this Scripture that takes you back to the time of Moses, when the children of Israel (Jacob) were under Egyptian bondage in the land of Egypt.
Exodus 3:11-18 (KJV)
And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? [12] And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. [13] And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? [14] And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. [15] And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, YHWH (The LORD) God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations. [16] Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, YHWH (The LORD) God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt: [17] And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey. [18] And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, YHWH (The LORD) God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to YHWH (The LORD) our God.
Here are more words used in the Holy Bible to describe almighty God.
Jeremiah 10:10 (KJV)
But YHWH (The LORD) is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.
Job 6:10 (KJV)
Then should I yet have comfort; yea, I would harden myself in sorrow: let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.
Psalm 89:18-19 (KJV)
For YHWH (The LORD) is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king. [19] Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
The Hebrew God of the heaven also had a particular Hebrew Name which is evident in over 5000 times in the Hebrew Scriptures where the name is of Four Hebrew Letters. The sacred name of GOD is almost unpronounceable by our English standards, but it is guessed to possibly sound like YAHWEH or YAHVEH or represented as “YHWH.”
It's sadly common these day to see in our modern English translation Bibles to see the words "the LORD" used in place of the original Holy Hebrew name of YHWH or YHVH.
Exodus 6:3 (KJV)
And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name YAHVEH (JEHOVAH) was I not known to them.
The Holy Bible Scriptures teach us that God’s name is both Holy and Powerful.
Exodus 9:16 (KJV)
And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
Leviticus 22:32 (KJV)
Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am YHWH (The LORD) which hallow you,
Psalm 8:9 (KJV)
YHWH ( The LORD) our YHWH (LORD), how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
Psalm 44:5 (KJV)
Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
Psalm 61:5 (KJV)
For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.
Psalm 68:4 (KJV)
Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name Jah (YAH), and rejoice before him.
The Holy Bible also states there is only one supreme GOD—the GOD of Old Testament.
Exodus 20:2-7 (KJV)
I am YHWH ( The LORD) thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. [3] Thou shalt have no other gods before me. [4] Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: [5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I YHWH ( The LORD) thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; [6] And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. [7] Thou shalt not take the name of YHWH ( The LORD) thy God in vain; for YHWH ( The LORD) will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Deut. 6:4 (KJV)
Hear, O Israel: YHWH ( The LORD) our God is one YHWH (LORD):
Zech. 14:9 (KJV)
And YHWH ( The LORD) shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one YHWH (LORD), and his name one.
Jesus taught likewise, we have only one GOD, one Father in heaven.
Luke 18:19 (KJV)
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
Jesus many times in His ministry related directly to the Law of Old Testament of the Hebrew GOD or YHWH His Father. This is especially seen when Jesus teaches on the Law.
John 14:21 (KJV)
He that hath My commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
John 15:10 (KJV)
If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
Mark 10:19 (KJV)
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
Mark 12:28-31 (KJV)
And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? [29] And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: [30] And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. [31] And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Matthew 5:19 (KJV)
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
So you can see that Jesus taught on the Law of God and kept the Law of HIS Father or the Law of God in the Old Testament.
