What is Sin?
The Holy Bible defines sin as the transgression, or breaking of God’s holy law.
1 John 3:4
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
God is a holy God and cannot tolerate sin, or rebellion to his righteous law.
The Holy Bible teaches that God gave a commandment to Man, in Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden not to eat of a certain tree, but man disobeyed God’s law by listening to lies of the devil, an angelic being who also rebelled against God.
Thus, all men and women born of Adam and Eve are born into sin, and fall short of the glory of the holy, righteous, and just, God.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
The Holy Bible teaches that the penalty for sin is death, so all of Adam and Eve’s descendants were covered by God’s curse of death for their sin. This death was not only physical death as all men die, but spiritual death, or separation from God.
1st Corinthians 15:56
The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
The Holy Bible also teaches that later from the descendants of Adam and Eve, the children of Israel received the laws from God, who chose them to be a holy people upon the earth above all other peoples, so they would be a special light to the nations of the earth.
The children of Israel received the law of God and later sinned against God and his holy laws. Thus, the children of Israel had another addition of sin upon the sin they were already born with and could do nothing to redeem themselves from their sins, for they had forsaken God ‘s holy law in which God made a provision for the atonement for their sin through following the law and giving of holy sacrifices to receive God’s forgiveness of their sins.
Those who commit sins are called sinners.
The Holy Bible teaches that God was angry with the children of Israel and cast them out of the land God gave to their forefathers and scattered them into the world with their sin covering them and without anyone to redeem them.
But God had a plan to redeem Israel and all who come to God in repentance and he gave us his only Son, the promise of a Redeemer, a Christ, a Son of Man to come to earth to redeem those under the law and those aliens to the law, all sinners of mankind.
Romans 5:6
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
The Bible gospel, or good news is the story of Jesus who was sent as a holy offering, a sacrifice from God to die on the cross to save and redeem his people Israel from their sins and the sins of the world.
