Who hath ears to hear, let him hear
Jesus often spoke in parables when he spoke to the people, one such mystery was that of the parable of the Sower.
Read the parable of the Sower.
Matthew 13:1-9
¶ The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. 3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. 9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
The disciples of Jesus came to Jesus asking him why he speaks in parables. Read closely what Jesus said.
Matthew 13:10-17
And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. 13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: 15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. 16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. 17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
Jesus is trying to communicate the idea of listening, and hearing, and understanding the words of God.
As Jesus said “for whosoever hath, (or has hearing) to him shall be given (understanding from God), and he shall have more abundance: (wisdom of the things of God) but whosoever hath not (ears to hear), from him shall be taken away even that (understanding) he hath.”
Jesus then reveals to his disciples the meaning behind the parable of the Sower.
Matthew 13:18-23
Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. 20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
The parable is not about a sower sowing seeds, but about how one hears the word of the kingdom of God.
When one hears the word, but does not hear or understand the word of God it’s as if the fowls came and devoured up the seed, or the wicked one, the Devil catches away the word that was sown in the person’s heart.
There are some who hear the word and rejoice in it, but are like seeds that fell on stony places that have little earth and no roots to keep them rooted in the soil for any depth to the things of God. These endure for a while, but when tribulation, or persecution comes because of the word of the kingdom of God, they are offended and revert back to the world.
There are others who hear the word of God, seeds fallen among the thorns who are choked by the growth of the thorns, or the worldly cares and all that sinful world has to offer. Their interests in the world and worldly things choke the word of God and make it unfruitful.
Lastly, he who hears the word of God and understands it is like seed that falls on good earth and become rooted deeply in the good soil and grows up, by the grace of God, into a healthy fruitful plant or tree. Some plants, or trees, blossom with more fruit than others according to the gift God has given each man or woman.
It's clear that it all begins with hearing or reading and perceiving the word of God, receiving the seed of God’s word. Those who hear and perceive will be blessed with more understanding and those who do not will not be blessed, they will be caught up in snares of the devil and his world, those outside of Christ Jesus and the kingdom of God.
Matthew 11:25-30
¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. 26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. 27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
