Why Christ was born
Matthew 1:18-23
¶ Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
1st Titus 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
1st John 4:10
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Many people have heard of the birth of Jesus in relation to Christmas, but do they fully conceive of what actually happened with the birth of Jesus?
For on this day of the first Christmas mankind was visited not with another human being born flesh and blood into the world, but with Almighty God himself! Almighty God, Almighty YHWH of hosts, the King of Kings and LORD of Lords came to his creation mankind from High in the heavens and came down to the earth in the most frail, humble, and delicate form--- a baby.
God became man; personified in the human baby JESUS! Emmanuel who was prophesied of the Hebrew Prophets to come had arrived on earth.
This was God with us!
The prophesied Messiah had come, the great Savior had come. This Deliverer of the people of Israel was not a grown man; this King was not a well-established notable figure, but God in the body of a lowly baby lying in an animal manger. This is how the King of Israel would enter into the world. This was the great plan God had to save his creation mankind from their sins and separation from God.
Luke 2:8-14
¶ And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
The Son of God, God in the flesh, had come to man and this world for a mission to save Israel from her sins and through this act also make salvation available to all others who would believe the testimony of Jesus the Christ.
God entered the world as a baby and grew up like all other humans feeling and experiencing the same human experience --- being God.
It would be much later in time, 30 years later, as a young man of Israelite heritage and born of the tribe of Judah, that Christ would begin his ministry to teach Israel and mankind the ways of God and the love of God had toward Israel and his own creation---mankind.
John 3:16-21
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Romans 5:6
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Several years later on the Holy Passover of Israel, Christ would give his life on the cross; and be rejected by his own people, accursed and crucified to a tree, for the sins of his people Israel and the sins of the world—the ungodly
Matthew 26:26-28
¶ And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
God, the Son of God as a grown young man, Jesus, bled on the cross for the remission of sins. When he was nailed to a tree Jesus took upon himself a curse by God ---all the sin of the world.
Here was man being God who sinned not, nor knew of sin, but took upon himself all the vile sins of mankind as “the scapegoat” which Israel had placed their sins upon the head of a goat and released it into the wilderness on the holy Day of Atonement for Israel in ancient times. Now God, the Son of God, as a perfect sinless sacrifice was not only the Lamb of sacrifice to be slain for the holy ritual to please God, but also the scapegoat who took upon himself all the sins of the world before he was put to death on a tree by the people of Israel and the Gentiles.
This is the reason why Jesus was born, to save Israel from their sins committed against God and to save all men (and women) who would join themselves to the New Covenant God had made with Israel.
For this reason, God, Almighty YHWH came to earth more than 2000 years ago to tabernacle among man.
This was the reason for the birth of Jesus!
This is the Good news or Gospel, the glad tidings of great joy for this Christmas day when Christ was born, a Savior was born, and a king to rule all Israel and a God to rule all mankind and all the heavens and earth.
Jesus would teach all men to know God –the one true living God ---and show by example how man should love God and love one another. By example, Jesus would demonstrate the Love of God for man through his own sacrifice on the Cross; shedding his own holy blood for the propitiation ---the holy atonement of all sin.
1st John 4:10
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
This is why each year in December people commemorate Christmas and the miracle birth of God in the flesh to live as man and die for the sin of the world.
Mark 16:5-6
And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. 6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
1st Corinthians 15:20
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
Being God in the flesh, Jesus, while he died a death on the cross; was in the tomb only three days-- arose from the dead and was raised into Glory to sit at right hand of God in the heavens to rule over all the earth and heavens as the victorious God!
God returned back to heaven having accomplished on the cross his holy sacrifice, having shed his blood for the remission of sins.
Acts 2:29-36
Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool. 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
God is now in heaven; he is continuing to save his people Israel to this day, and will save many others who will heed the message and believe in the testimony of Jesus, the Christ.
Won’t you heed that call of God now, and reach out to God!
