What does it mean to be "baptized?"
Baptism was a commandment of Jesus to his disciples to baptize all nations.
Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
To baptize means to be as the Greek word baptizo, means to make whelmed, by water, or fully wet.
baptizo, Greek 907, Strong’s
baptizo, bap-tid'-zo; from a derivative of Greek 911 (bapto); to make whelmed (i.e. fully wet); used only (in the N.T.) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technical) of the ordinance of Christian baptism :- baptist, baptize, wash.
A baptism, a Biblical Christian baptism, is a holy ordinance of washing in water for absolution, or purification of one's sin, to receive remission, or forgiveness of one’s sins against God.
Baptism in the Holy Bible was a part of the salvation plan of God.
First, faith in Jesus took place in the believer, then faith causes repentance for one’s sins against God, then the believer is water baptized in the name of Jesus.
Baptism involves a two-part process involving water and God’s Holy Spirit which baptizes you in the act of a Biblical baptism.
Jesus said one must be born again.
John 3:5-7
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Just as Jesus was water baptized by John the Baptist and the Holy Spirit was witnessed descending on him in the form of a dove, as John the Baptist said of the coming Christ, he would be the anointed of God whom the Spirit would fall and be remaining on him.
John 1:33
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
We in our baptism receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit of Jesus remaining in us forever.
Baptism is also symbolic of our death, or our burial of our old sinful self with Christ Jesus who died for the sins of the world. We are buried in our baptism, going under the water, our sins are then washed from us in the water symbolic for the blood of Jesus shed on his cross for the forgiveness of sins. When we are raised out the water, we are raised up cleansed anew to life in Christ, just as Jesus was resurrected three days after his death on the cross to everlasting life, so we are raised in our resurrection to life everlasting.
Baptism not only washes us clean, but prepares us for entrance into the Holy Church of Jesus, his Church is the Body of baptized believers in Christ Jesus with the Holy Spirit of God, or Holy Ghost indwelling in our body, our temple.
