Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise:
Isaiah 40:1-11
¶ Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. 2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of YHWH’S hand double for all her sins. 3 ¶ The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of YHWH, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: 5 And the glory of YHWH shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of YHWH hath spoken it. 6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: 7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of YHWH bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. 8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. 9 ¶ O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! 10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. 11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
These words were written down by YHWH’s Holy prophet Isaiah more than 700 years before Jesus was born and God would visit his people. The prophet Isaiah lived among a very turbulent time period for all of Israel, both the divided house of Judah and the house of Israel. Isaiah’s prophetic writings extend across four king’s reigns of Judah. Isaiah lived to see the first fall of Israel when the Assyrian Captivity took away all of the northern ten tribes of the house of Israel.
This first captivity of the house of Israel (722 BC) happened during the reign of Judah’s King Ahaz 736-716 BC who is mentioned in the next scripture.
Isaiah 7:10-16
¶ Moreover YHWH spake again unto Ahaz, saying, 11 Ask thee a sign of YHWH thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. 12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt YHWH. 13 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good. 16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.
Isaiah records that YHWH, God of Israel, told king Ahaz to ask YHWH for a sign. Judah’s King Ahaz refused to ask of God for a sign.
YHWH then gave a sign; a sign for all of Israel, “a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel!”
Before this shall come to pass, YHWH stated that both Israel and Judah's kings shall be forsaken. This would in time happen as Israel was taken off the land by the Assyrians in 722 BC and Judah would after Isaiah’s record, fall under the Babylonian captivity, 586 BC. Both Israelite houses would be forsaken because of their great sins, before Immanuel was born.
It’s during this turbulent and awful time of Israel that Isaiah’s prophesy is one of glorious hope, a light that will shine away the darkness.
Isaiah 60:1-3
¶ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of YHWH is risen upon thee. 2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but YHWH shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. 3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
Isaiah spoke not only of a great light, but a child who shall be born.
Isaiah 9:2-7
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. 3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. 4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian. 5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire. 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of YHWH of hosts will perform this.
This prophesy of Isaiah was of a child to be born, but not just any child, but a son described as the Mighty God, the everlasting Father the Prince of Peace!
Roughly more than 700 years later, a child was born, and unto Israel a son was given.
Matthew 1:18-25
¶ Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
The prophesy in Isaiah had come to fulfillment, a virgin had conceived and his name was called Emmanuel.
Luke 1:26-35
¶ And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Luke 2:1-14
¶ And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. 8 ¶ And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Isaiah was not the only prophet to foretell of the good news of the birth of Jesus. Here the prophet Zechariah foretells of the coming good news of the prophesied King.
Zechariah 9: 9-10
¶ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. 10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.
The next scripture from the book of Revelation, which came long after Jesus was born, and died, and arisen into heaven, but the prophetic language explains the birth of Jesus.
Revelation 12:1-2
¶ And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: 2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
Revelation 12:5
And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
The woman in the scripture is clearly Israel, the 12 stars representing the twelve tribes of Israel out of which Christ was born (the lion tribe of Judah), but is there is another meaning to this amazing scripture?
According to one Christian researcher’s amazing book by Ernest L. Martin and the studies by astronomers there was indeed a great wonder that appeared in the heavens at the exact time of the birth of Jesus.
For at the time of YHWH’s visitation to his people Israel, when Mary the mother of Jesus was with child, the heavens appeared to describe some amazing wonders.
Is the woman in the heavens the constellation Virgo, the virgin?
According to the biblical researcher, in 3BC there appeared an astronomical wonder in the month of September; the Sun passed through the mid-section of Virgo estimated at a period of August 27th to September 15th. The Sun, the Son of God.
At this very time the moon, the birth of a child, was seen at the position of the feet of Virgo. The exact time and date of the Moon’s position was 7pm, September 11th 3 BC.
According to the study of the moon, this would be exact timing of first light of the moon on the first day of the seventh Hebrew Month, placing the birth of Jesus on the day of trumpets, a time when all of Israel would be gathering for the holiest month of Israel’s holy months, thus there would no room found at the inn or any other house as all of Judah would be celebrating the very day of trumpets, but preparing for the coming day of atonement and feast of tabernacles.
How amazing that indeed that very heavens declared God’s glory and very possibly the very exact day Jesus was born!
This would mean that Jesus was not born in winter, but in autumn.
We know that Jesus when he was a grown young man was recorded to be about thirty years old and three years later Jesus was to die for the sin of Israel and the world on the cross on the Passover 33 AD. The timing appears remarkably consistent.
There is further evidence that the Star that the wise men followed from 3 BC to 2 BC was the planetary conjunction of Jupiter (the king planet) and Venus (the mother planet) and Regulus (the king star) of the constellation Leo (The lion, of the lion tribe of Judah).
Amazingly Jupiter stops in the abdomen position of Virgo on December 25th 2 BC the day the three wise men, or Magi, are believed to arrive in Bethlehem to give gifts to the new born King of the Jews!
December 25th, the same day we celebrate Christmas!
Won’t you join me in the wonder and amazing glory surrounding the glorious birth of Christ to praise God for his unspeakable gift to all men, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father the Prince of Peace, JESUS, the Son of God, the lamb of God who died for sins of the world!
“Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.”
Praise be to God in the highest!
If you do not know about the Son of God, YHWH gave to the world, then I invite you to begin to learn about Jesus.
Do you know Jesus?
Who is the Christ?
Why did Christ come?
