The Name of Jesus

When the angel appeared to Mary, the mother of Jesus, he told her that she would carry a special child in her virgin womb and his name would be called JESUS, the glorious name given by God indwelling God’s grace, God’s mercy, and God’s salvation for Israel and all of mankind.

Matthew 1:18-21
¶ Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

John, a disciple of Jesus, wrote that as many as received Jesus, or believed on him and in his name, the name of Jesus, they would become the sons of God.

John 1:10-13
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The Holy Bible records that there is salvation in no other name in the earth under heaven, but the name of the Son of God, the name of Jesus.

Acts 4:12
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Just as there is power in the very word of God, the inspired words and scriptures recorded in the Holy Bible, there is great power and authority in the Name of JESUS.

John 3:18
He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

During his three-year ministry, Jesus often spoke of his heavenly Father’s name.

John 17:6
I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

John 17:11-12
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. [12] While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

John 17:26
And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Jesus states on more than one occasion that he has come in his Father's name. Of course, his Father's name is the same as in the Old Testament or YHWH, pronounced perhaps as Yahweh.

John 5:43
I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive Me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

John 10:25
Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

John 14:13-14
And whatsoever ye shall ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. [14] If ye shall ask any thing in My name, I will do it.

Following the death of Jesus, his resurrection from the dead and his ascension to heaven, God sent the "Holy Ghost" or "Holy Spirit" or "the Comforter," which is sent by the Father in the name of Jesus.

John 13:15-18
¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 ¶ I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The name of Jesus is important and powerful for one's salvation.

John 20:31
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

After Jesus arose from the dead and ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of God, Christ’s apostles’ practice of the baptism of the believers of Jesus into the Body of Christ, the Church, took place in the name, or power and sovereign authority of Jesus, the Christ.

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 8:14-17
¶ Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Acts 19:1-6
¶ And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Throughout the book of Acts, the name of Jesus, of the Son of God, did many powerful works and miracles of God's mercy and power.

Acts 3:6
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Acts 3:16
And His name through faith in His name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

Acts 4:10
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

Acts 4:29-31 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Acts 16:16-18
¶ And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. 18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

Jesus is the name by which all must believe to be saved.

Acts 4:12
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Acts 10:43
To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

Romans 10:13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Philippians 2:9-11
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The name of JESUS is an English transliteration for the Greek IESOUS.

The Greek word IESOUS is a transliteration in Greek of the Hebrew Name of JESUS which is Yehowshuwa or YESHUA pronounced possibly as YAH-SHU-AH as transliterated into the English.

The Hebrew Name of JESUS simply means YHWH SAVES or The Salvation of YAHWEH (God)

Notice the following prophetic scripture to see how this fits perfectly and in harmony. (The bracketed red color text below is added for clarification.)

Isaiah 25:6-12
And in this mountain shall YHWH [the LORD] of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. [7] And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations. [8] He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for YHWH hath spoken it [9] And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; [YAHWEH] we have waited for Him, and He will save us: this is YHWH; we have waited for Him [GOD], we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation. [YESHUA] [10] For in this mountain shall the hand of YHWH rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill. [11] And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands. [12] And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, even to the dust.

“His salvation” is from the Hebrew word YESHUA—JESUS.

Notice the above Scripture refers to "He will swallow up death in victory."

Now read from 1st Corinthians.

1st Corinthians 15:50-57
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. [51] Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, [52] In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. [53] For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. [54] So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. [55] O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? [56] The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. [57] But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

So, our salvation (from the power, mercy, and the grace of God) is received through the Name of Jesus Christ and believing in Jesus the Christ to believe on the Son of God who died for our sins taking upon himself all the sins of mankind upon himself as he was crucified on the cross, taking the painful punishment and wrath of God that was meant for us.

Just as Jesus died and arose from the dead into the glory of God, we too who believe in his name and are crucified with Christ, who die, will be raised to life everlasting to be returned to God in his heavenly grace and holy presence. Then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Son Jesus, that whosoever would believe in his saving powerful name, and his saving powerful work on the cross would receive everlasting life!

There is truly power in the Name of Jesus!

Power to heal, power to save, power to resurrect!

Will not you be a witness to the power of the name of Jesus!

Will you believe into his saving name?

Do you know Jesus?

He died for your sins!

Will you believe, repent of your sins, and be baptized in Jesus’ name?

Are you covered by his blood?

May God bless you this day with his Holy Spirit.
