Understanding the Sabbath
Genesis 2:1-4 (KJV)
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. [2] And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. [3] And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. [4] These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,
The Holy Bible says that God created everything in six days and on the seventh day He rested from all His work. He completed all His work and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the seventh day was blessed by God and "set apart" or "sanctified," to be made “holy.”
The following article is an in-depth look at the seventh day or Sabbath. The focus is to try to understand more about the biblical Sabbath.
This study will attempt to discern on which day it actually (biblically) was, when it occurred, and what God and His law says about the seventh day, and what the Holy Bible records took place on the seventh day.
This author can only assume this entire study will be an ongoing continued series of articles and updated as time goes on.
Many today want to know, "what day of the week was it?"
Was it Saturday or Sunday?
When did Jesus die and on what day did He arise?
For centuries, this has been debated and entire church denominations today are based upon it and others have split over it. Many millions of people are today confused over it, and just about every religion has its own sabbath. The Arabs use a Friday sabbath, Jews hold it on Saturday, the Christians worship on Sunday, in fact, even the Romans had a special 8th day sabbath.
So which day is it?
God surely made it a requirement to "Keep the Sabbath Holy" wherein the seventh day Israel was to rest.
Does it matter, as long as we keep seven days—why should it matter?
With so many questions, it only makes sense that we should try to study and learn and grasp it.
There is great higher knowledge in the word of God.
I've always believed (once I came to God's awesome truth in the Holy Bible) that everything we need an answer to can be found in the word of God.
God gave us all we need in the word of God. He also gave us all we need to think, to figure out things and to learn and to discern truth from lies or good and evil.
He also gave those of us in Jesus [Yeshua the shortened Hebrew name of Jesus] the Christ, his Holy Spirit to bring us to remembrance and to teach us all things.
And once again, God has proved that His word is so awesome, for I believe God has revealed in this study some new understandings of the biblical Sabbath and the day of rest given to God's covenant people— the children of Israel.
Its my sincerest hope that this study will edify you and you will bring away something that will better help you in understanding God's Holy Day and the seventh day Sabbath.
